Fresh study on Saudi-Egypt bridge Sunday, 17 July 2011 01:16

DOHA: Saudi Arabia and Egypt have decided to launch fresh studies to build a 32-km bridge linking the two countries. If the bridge is ready, motorists from either side would be able to cross over in just 22 minutes.

A senior official of Saudi-Egyptian Business Council said the bridge project is under study again.

The bridge project will be on top of the agenda to be discussed in August by the Saudi Egyptian Business Council at its meeting in Jeddah.

Comprehensive studies on financial cost and technical feasibility of the project will be launched and its findings would be submitted to officials of the two countries, said Abdullah Dahlan, chairman of the Saudi-Egyptian Business Council.

GCC Investment funds and the private sector will finance the bridge project.

The 32-km bridge will link Saudi Arabia to Egypt via Gulf of Aqaba from Ras Hamid area in Saudi Arabia to Ras Nassrani near Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt.

The former Egyptian government had refused to implement the project before.
