Local hockey player dies during league match Saturday, 12 November 2011 01:30

 

Doha: Saliheen Azizuddin (pictured), a player of the Al Khor Malaysian Hockey Club, collapsed and was pronounced dead while taking part in the Qatar Hockey Association (QHA) League match at Al Rayyan Hockey Ground yesterday.

Azizuddin, who used to play as defender for the Malaysian team, collapsed when the match between Al Khor Malaysian Hockey Club and United Hockey Academy Club was nine minutes old. Attempts to revive him proved futile, informed an official of QHA.

The match between the two teams was then called off, the QHA official added.

“It is really sad to know about the tragic death at the Al Rayyan Hockey ground. The hockey community will miss him very much,” said QHA General Secretary Mohammed Nazer.

Azizuddin, a Malaysian National was an employee with Qatar Petroleum, Dukhan.

He is survived by his wife and four boys, with the eldest one studying in Malaysia.

Azizuddin was a Fire officer with Qatar Petroleum and was very much involved with hockey development among the youngsters of Dukhan.

He was instrumental in canvassing around 20 youngsters to attending the regular coaching classes conducted by QHA at Al Rayyan Hockey Grounds.

His funeral prayers and burial will be held at 12 noon today at the Abu Hamoor hospital.
