KTTDC becomes IDL agent Monday, 06 February 2012 03:47

DOHA: The Karwa Transportation Training and Development Center  (KTTDC) at Mowasalat  has been recognized as  an International Driving License (IDL) agent in Qatar.

Anyone with a valid Qatari driving licence can now apply for the international driving permit from KTTDC.

International driving licence allows people to travel abroad with confidence. The IDL is recognised worldwide as valuable document identifying the holder has a valid native driver’s licence and is of a minimum 18 years of age.

Every applicant seeking an IDL is required to submit the original Qatari driving licence and a copy of the passport. The applications will be forwarded to the Qatar Automobile & Touring Club, the sole authority to issue International Driving Permit in Qatar, Mowasalat said yesterday.

International driving licence/document is an official translation of a national or domestic driver’s licence; it is in form of a passport size booklet translated into nine international languages.

The authorization for the international driver licence has its basis in the United Nations conventions on Road Traffic and Safety held in 1923, 1943, 1949 and 1968, which established standards for the international driving permit.

Application forms and details about the fees and other formalities are available at KTTDC’s registration counter.

Plan for taxi rank, bus shelter in Barwa village
DOHA: Mowasalat is planning to establish a taxi rank and a bus shelter inside the sprawling Barwa Village, a senior official of the company said yesterday.
The company is also having discussions with the Barwa management to set up a Karwa operating station inside the Village.
Mowasalat has plans to operate more public buses to the Village from its main bus terminal in Al Ghanim area. Currently the bus service is available on a very limited schedule.

The Malaysia's international driver licence also has its basis in the United Nations conventions on Road Traffic and Safety held in 1923, 1943, 1949 and 1968, which established standards for the international driving permit. However, Malaysians working in Qatar and holding the said driving licence are still required to take up Qatari driving licence. Why can't the Qatari government or the relevant authority allow Malaysians to use it to drive or at least to allow it to be converted to Qatari driving licence without the need to go for driving practices and tests at KTTDC or other driving institutions based at Doha. Can someone explain or enlighten me with this new development at Mowasalat?
