Ministry of Culture to hold annual winter camp from Feb 10 at Sealine Wednesday, 08 February 2012 04:05

DOHA: The Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage will hold the first annual winter camp from February 10 to 24 in Sealine, it was announced on Monday.

Under the patronage of H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, the event is catered to various Arab communities and the youth. Addressing a press conference, Khalid Abdullah Al Kuwari, director of Minister’s Office and chairman of supreme committee for camping supervision said the ministry is keen on moulding young people socially, culturally and spiritually providing experiences to create a generation of leaders in the future.

Present at the press meet were Abdulrahman bin Mohammad Al Hajri, director of camping activities; Abdul Razak bin Abdullah Al kuwari, director of youth centres; Jamal Faiz, director of cultural activities section and Nasser Al Jabri, chairman of activities and camping.

Al Kuwari said the Cultural Ministry plans to continue the campaign next year as part of its youth development initiatives which are a focus of the National Development Strategy 2011/2016 as the youth are considered the future and therefore have a great role to play in developing the nation and achieving its ambitions.

The Ministry has formed a supreme committee to ensure the success of the event targeting all age groups since it is the first of its kind to be organised by the Ministry, according to Al Kuwari.

Mainly for Arab expatriates, the camp will provide cultural, recreational and social competitions suitable for all age groups and since it will coincide with the National Sports Day, special activities will also be held on the day. Nasser Al Jabri, member of the committee, said camping at this season is a significant part of the way of life not only of Qataris but the larger expatriate community.

“In spite of the presence of recreation facilities and entertainment in the country camping is still being practised because it is considered special for Arab countries from the olden to the modern times,” said Al Jabri. Camping activities will start on Friday and will feature Saudi band Wassa Sadrak and Jordanian group Karamish.

The second day will highlight the Adam Sons Group while the third day will showcase performances by Kuwaiti group Sanafer and some comedians.

The fourth day will be dedicated to the Moroccan community and will feature religious lectures by Suliman Al Jubilant and religious songs among others while the fifth day will highlight Egyptian community activities and the music artist centre.

For the sixth day an Egyptian circus and Yemeni artistes group will be the main attraction and on the last day the Sudanese community activities will take place along with circus and religious lectures by Sheikh Sultan Al Jhilpi and religious songs and entertainment by Al Maha group.

The camp will also include heritage village, traditional Arabic coffee and popular games spearheaded by various organisations.
