Suspects held in woman’s killing Wednesday, 08 February 2012 04:05

DOHA: Qatar’s law-enforcement agencies have eventually zeroed in on the alleged killers of an 82-year-old Qatari woman who was brutally murdered in her house in New Salata area early last Saturday morning.

A Ministry of Interior statement issued late last evening said the alleged killers broke into the house of the deceased with the intent to commit burglary.

The suspects have been arrested and have confessed to having committed the crime during investigation, the ministry statement said.

It, however, did not say as to how many suspects were involved in the heinous crime.

The law-enforcement agencies have completed their investigation and charges have been filed and the matter has been referred to the judiciary for legal action, the statement added.

The statement said the domestic servants (understandably, a maid and a driver) present in the house at the time of the incident were taken into police remand for questioning.

The statement, however, didn’t say whether the duo has been released or not.

The woman was found dead when sleuths from law-enforcement agencies arrived on the scene of the crime having reportedly been informed by her driver.

The driver is said to have informed the police of the tragic incident using 999 (emergency number) after he was alerted by the maid in the wee hours of Saturday saying that some thieves had broken into the house.

The maid is believed to have later told the police that the burglars had barged into the house at around 3.45am and hit the woman with an iron rod on her head.

Her body was found by the police officers lying in a pool of blood on the floor of the house.
