DOHA: Brigadier Mohammed Saad Al Kharji, Director of the Traffic Department has hailed Al Sharq for its recent initiative to promote public awareness about traffic safety and urged other media outlets to follow suit.
His comments came during a visit to Al Sharq offices yesterday. Al Kharji was accompanied by Brigadier Mohammed Abdullah Al Malki, Secretary General of the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC) and Col Abdulla Khalifa Al Muftah, Public Relations Director at the Ministry of Interior.
The delegation was received by Abdul Latif Al Mahmoud, General Manager of Al Sharq, Ibrahim Al Sayed, Deputy General Manager of Al Sharq, Jabir Al Harami, Editor-in-Chief of Al Sharq, Khaled Al Sayed, editor-in-chief of The Peninsula and Ezeldin Abdul Rahman, Marketing and Public Relations Director of Al Sharq.
Speaking on the occasion, Al Kharji said Al Sharq has set a model for other newspapers by supporting the national traffic safety campaign through informative articles and extensive coverage of the campaign programmes.
Al Mahmoud said the traffic safety has assumed great significance with the rapid population growth in Qatar and massive infrastructure developments taking place in the country.
He also underlined the role of parents and social institutions in raising awareness among the younger generation about traffic rules and traffic safety.
On behalf of the Ministry of Interior, Al Kharji presented mementos to Jabir Al Harami and Ibrahim Al Sayed, while Al Mahmoud presented a memento to Al Kharji, on behalf of Al Sharq. The Peninsula
