DOHA: IctQatar yesterday honoured four organisations in both public and private sectors for their significant role in innovating e-learning initiatives into their respective development programmes.
In a special event held at the Four Seasons Hotel, ictQatar handed the recognition awards to Supreme Council of Health and Qatar University for the public sector and Qatar National Bank and Chiyoda Almana Engineering for the private sector.
Five Special Achievement Awards were also given to organisations that excelled in specific areas of adopting e-learning in the workplace. The Ministry of Interior won the ‘ICT Skills Development’ award, Qatar Foundation won ‘Blended Learning’ and the Almana Group won the ‘IT Enterprise’ award.
Other awards included ‘Long-term Adoption of e-Learning’ picked up by Qatar Petroleum while the Qatar Statistics Authority was recognised with the ‘e-Learning Adoption in Government Sector’ award.
“E-learning is an integral part of helping organisations continuously develop their employees. The wide adoption of e-learning across sectors in Qatar shows the commitment organisations have in investing in their most valuable resource, their people,” said Reem Al Mansoori, ICT Skills Development Manager at ictQatar.
IctQatar’s ICT skills department has built up the National e-Learning Portal (QNEP) programme over the past three years and now has over 60 organisations actively using QNEP courses.
The programme has introduced web-based training courses to thousands of working professionals across Qatar through its digital learning system and library of more than 4000 online courses. Since 2009, 37,000 online courses have been accessed by 8,000 learners in Qatar.
“The success of e-learning in Qatar is attributed to the strong interest of organizations in technology based learning due to its flexibility and cost effectiveness,” said Nader Subaih, QNEP Project Manager.
The annual e-Learning Leaders event is for managers and executives who have supported and integrated e-learning into their workplace with a view to enhancing the skills-set of employees.
