Qatar Airways staffer dies in road accident Friday, 28 May 2010 06:05

DOHA: A 26-year-old Mala–ysian woman died here yesterday in a hit-and-run accident. The Qatar Airways air hostess, Pan Meng Huei alias Jenny Pan, was hit by a speeding vehicle as she was crossing the road near Doha International Airport early in the morning.

According to close family sources, Pan was to report for duty on a flight to Dammam. She had parked her car next to a shopping complex on Airport Road and was crossing the road when she was hit by a speeding vehicle. The motorist did not stop. The accident happened at around 6.30am.

She was rushed to the emergency unit of Hamad Hospital, where she was put on a life support system. However, she succumbed to her injuries at 2.45pm.

Family sources said Pan had been working with Qatar Airways for almost four years and had got married recently. Her parents are expected to arrive here today.

“It was an unfortunate incident; we all are saddened by the tragedy. It was a shock for her colleagues and our sympathies go to her family,” a Qatar Airways spokesperson told The Peninsula.

Truth to be told, Qatar Airways does provide a transport from Hardees to Technical Building and no matter how said and how much sorrow we feel for Jenny, QA is not to blame. But let me get my hands on hit-and-run driver!

At this Qatar Airways Technical Gate Hundreds of individuals enter throughout 24 hrs, so there is a need to either build a overhead bridge for crossing, or Signal Light like corniche area [press button to turn the light Red] should be installed. It will save many lives in near future.

The government sholud construct overpass or elevated passageways above the corssings and other pedestrian areas where crossing the streets are really dangerous.

How many more innocent lives need to be lost before something concrete is done? Like this particular location, there are so many other important locations within the city that urgently requires overhead walkways to make these crossings safe. I hope the concerned authorities would take necessary measures in constructing them.
It also highlights the acute shortage of parking within the work areas that leads to such incidents. Measures should also be taken to not allot any further construction within the city if a particular building cannot substantiate adequate parking for their project. If not, in the years to come, one would see an overflow of vehicles parked literally on undesignated parking areas like on roadsides. Such indicators are already obvious in many places in the city.
