Summer gala promises diverse entertainment Monday, 12 July 2010 01:08

The Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) announced last week details of the Doha Summer Amusement Park, which is to start at the Doha Exhibitions Centre on July 20.
The 8-week event, which includes a series of activities, will run through the Holy month of Ramadan and end on September 14.
Speaking at a special press conference, QTA Chairman Ahmed Al Nuaimi promised an extended Summer of “fun and entertainment” against the background of mounting criticism by the nation’s newspapers because of delay in launching the event.
“Our authority feels proud to organise such an important event,” Al Nuaimi said. “We’re pleased to announce the changes that will be incorporated into the programme this year,” he added.
He said the event would be a real fun for children and families in general. He added that these modifications were based on the suggestions programme participants made in the previous years.
One of these suggestions has been the need to extend the duration of the event so that children and families can have the chance to enjoy it for an extended period of time. This year, the event will include special activities for Ramadan. Details of these activities will be announced soon, according to organisers.
They added that entry will be free and that packages will be organised so that visitors from neighbouring countries can take part in the event. The activities of the park will take place over 12,500 square meters in the Doha Exhibitions Centre, 10,000 square meters of which will be dedicated to rides and games.
Several restaurants, cafés, and shops will open particularly for the event to cater for the needs of the visitors.
