QFC discusses emerging opportunities as Qatar moves to post-pandemic economic recovery phase

Doha - The Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) hosted an economic expert roundtable through visual communication technology, to discuss how to take advantage of the emerging and increasing opportunities with the expansion of the Qatari economy, with the participation of a number of experts from the State of Qatar in the fields of business, policy and research.

The event included holding extensive discussions between representatives of some Qatari institutions as part of the roundtable work, during which they focused on the most important areas that will have a vital role in achieving a sustainable and equitable economic recovery, including enhancing the competitiveness of the State of Qatar, foreign direct investment, and ways to better utilize from the data provided by the Planning and Statistics Authority in developing more effective policies and carbon pricing mechanisms.

The meeting also included an introductory session on the QFC's current trends, and its most prominent contributions to the Qatari economy in general, and in the post-COVID-19 economic recovery phase in particular.

The team of experts and professionals in the fields of business, policy and research gave presentations on the most prominent developments in the energy industry.

Managing Director, Financial Sector Office at the QFC Henk Jan Hoogendoorn expressed his optimism about the positive economic prospects of the State of Qatar, praising the continuous efforts made by the QFC to enhance economic diversification in the State of Qatar and achieve a sustainable economic recovery in the post- pandemic stage.

He said that it is encouraging to see that efforts to combat COVID_19 are gaining momentum in most major economies, which will result in the gradual return of economic activities to their normal rates and open up many new opportunities, noting that the accelerated growth and innovation in the digital technology sector is one of the most prominent trends currently witnessed in Qatar.

He added that in the mid of global efforts to contain Covid-19 pandemic, QFC was able to exceed all its previous achievements, and welcomed the joining of more than 356 new companies to its business platform, noting that despite all the challenges imposed by this global crisis, the companies registered on the QFC Business Platform continued to hire new employees and expand their businesses.

With the increase in QFC's activities, the expansion of its diversification circle and the achievement of sustainable profits, the rate of tax payments from the QFC companies has also increased to its highest level ever, and most importantly, keeping pace with the rapid developments in the field of digitization, the QFC is currently working on renewing its digital services to be more closely aligned with client needs, QFC official said.
