Doha, Qatar: Qatar will host the sixth edition of the Recycling Towards Sustainability Conference and Exhibition 2026 on October 6 and 7 at Raffles Doha, bringing together government entities, private-sector institutions, companies, experts and specialists to discuss the latest developments in waste management, recycling and sustainability.

The Ministry of Municipality announced details of the upcoming event at a press conference yesterday, highlighting its role as a platform for exchanging knowledge and expertise and exploring practical solutions to strengthen recycling and promote the transition towards a circular economy.

Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services at the Ministry of Municipality and Chairman of the conference’s organising committee Eng Abdullah Ahmed Al Karani, said the conference reflects the Ministry’s efforts to consolidate sustainability principles across the public services system and develop waste management through a more integrated and efficient approach.

He said the event supports Qatar National Vision 2030’s sustainable development objectives, noting that waste management and recycling have become fundamental pillars of sustainable development.

Al Karani explained that the global approach to waste management is no longer limited to waste collection and treatment, but increasingly focuses on recovering resources, reusing them and transforming waste into economic and environmental value. This approach supports the principles of the circular economy while helping conserve resources and reduce waste.

He said the sixth edition builds on the successes of previous editions, with a greater focus on translating knowledge and dialogue into practical applications and implementable solutions. It will also seek to encourage innovation and investment and create wider opportunities for partnerships that can contribute to developing the recycling sector and enhancing its efficiency and sustainability.

The conference will bring together government institutions, the private sector, experts, specialists and other stakeholders, providing opportunities to exchange experiences, discuss challenges and solutions, and explore the latest practices and technologies in recycling and sustainability.

Director of the Waste Recycling and Treatment Department and a member of the organising committee Eng Hamad Jassim Al Bahr, said the conference comes amid rapid developments in waste management and recycling technologies, modern collection, sorting and treatment methods, as well as growing opportunities to recover resources and transform waste into products and materials with economic and environmental value.

He said the conference will address several key areas, including improving waste collection, sorting and treatment operations; increasing the utilisation of recyclable materials; recycling construction and demolition waste; and using technology and innovation to enhance operational efficiency and reduce environmental impacts.

The event will also showcase the latest solutions, technologies and international experiences in the field. Al Bahr said the circular economy will be a major focus of the conference, reflecting the importance of moving away from viewing waste simply as discarded material and instead considering it a resource that can be recovered and reused within the production cycle.

He also highlighted the private sector’s role as a key partner in developing the recycling system, particularly through investment in modern technologies and industries based on recycled materials.

The sixth edition will also feature several new initiatives aimed at strengthening public awareness of sustainability and recycling.

Director of the Public Relations Department and a member of the organising committee Dr Faiqa Abdullah Al Ashkanani, said the conference’s media campaign began 10 days ahead of the event and will cover its themes, speakers, participants and accompanying activities. She said that the media programme will continue throughout the two-day conference through live coverage of sessions and activities, as well as digital and interactive content across various media platforms.

For the first time, Qatar Media Corporation will join the conference as a media partner, helping expand coverage and increase the reach of the event’s messages among different segments of society.

The conference will also introduce two sustainability mascots, “Bloomy” and “Scrappy”, designed and produced from recycled materials. The initiative aims to promote sustainability and recycling concepts among children through an interactive and innovative approach.

School students will have a prominent presence through a dedicated programme featuring workshops and awareness and interactive activities aimed at strengthening environmental awareness and promoting recycling and conservation of natural resources among younger generations.
