Doha, Qatar: Director General of Qatar Press Centre (QPC), Sadiq Mohammed Al-Amari met with Ambassador of Sudan to Qatar H E Badreddine Abdullah Mohammed Ahmed.
They discussed ways to enhance media cooperation and reviewed the most prominent challenges facing Sudanese journalists amidst the ongoing armed conflicts in Sudan. The meeting, held at the Centre’s headquarters, addressed the importance of supporting the freedom of journalistic work and providing a safe environment for media professionals to enable them to fulfill their professional mission of reporting the facts.
The talks emphasised the role of the media in raising awareness and highlighting humanitarian conditions.
At the beginning of the meeting, Al-Amari welcomed the Sudanese Ambassador, praising the visit as a reflection of both parties’ keenness to strengthen ties and cooperation across various fields, particularly the media sector. During the meeting, they reviewed the core activities of the Qatar Press Centre, which performs a pivotal role similar to that of journalists’ unions.
Al-Amari affirmed the Centre’s full support for Sudanese journalists, expressing solidarity with media workers in Sudan regarding the challenges they face. He noted that the Centre consistently issues statements condemning attacks on journalists and calling for perpetrators to be held accountable.
For his part, the Sudanese Ambassador expressed his deep gratitude to the Qatar Press Centre for the warm reception. He lauded Qatar’s honourable stance and continuous support for the Sudanese people, particularly during difficult times and through various humanitarian initiatives.
The Ambassador also condemned the Iranian aggression and its targeting of Qatar and its facilities, affirming the solidarity of the Sudanese government and people with Qatar. He noted that this solidarity is the least that can be offered in appreciation of Qatar’s support over the years, as it was among the first countries to stand by Sudan in its darkest hours.
