Doha: The General Directorate of Traffic has organised several awareness lectures as part of its annual operational plan to spread traffic awareness among all road users.

The programme included an awareness lecture for students at Ahmed Bin Mohammed Military College and two lectures for the Filipino, Nepalese, Sri Lankan, Malaysian and Indonesian communities.

The Directorate also held an awareness lecture for delivery drivers.

The awareness lecture for Ahmed Bin Mohammed Military College students provided a brief idea of the causes of traffic accidents and their health, social and economic impacts.

The lecture also dealt with traffic law and the importance of adhering to it to achieve the highest levels of road safety. It reviewed many traffic rules and instructions that the vehicle’s driver must adhere to, including the importance of fastening the seat belt, adherence to the speed limits on the roads, not using a mobile phone while driving, and other safety requirements.

Regarding the lectures for communities, they focused more on the common traffic mistakes among road users, including crossing the road from undesignated places and not adhering to pedestrian traffic signs when crossing the road.

Meanwhile, for the delivery drivers, the lectures focused on some wrong violations committed by delivery drivers, such as swerving between cars or driving on the roads in groups, sudden entry, and changing lanes quickly and unpredictably, especially in internal streets.

The General Directorate of Traffic confirmed that the awareness lectures come within the framework of an annual plan encouraging road users to adhere to traffic rules and regulations to protect their lives and the lives of others by discarding bad traffic habits. The Directorate is partnering with several companies to include as many delivery riders as possible.
