Residents in Qatar will have to brave dusty conditions today as the Meteorology Department has forecast dust winds across the country. However, there will be some respite from scorching heat as the mercury is likely to fall in coming days.
“It is expected that the northwesterly wind will continue to be strong in most areas during the weekend, where the winds reach their peak today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday), ranging from 20-30 knots inshore with wind gust reaching 40-48 knots sometime during the day and the wind ranges from 25-35 / 40 knots offshore,” said Qatar Meteorology Department in a statement yesterday.
“As wind activity continues, temperature will relatively decrease compared with past days, reaching the beginning of forties in Doha during the day which is around the normal average at this time,” added the Department.
Commuters will have to be careful as visibility is likely to deteriorate because of strong dust winds.
“Al Bawarih winds cause low visibility in most areas due to rising and blowing dust. The wind speed starts gradually decreasing from Saturday where the wind speed ranges between 12-25 / 30 knots. The marine warnings will be cancelled by the beginning of Monday,” said the Department. Wave height is expected to be 8 to 12 feet over the weekend.
