Within the framework of its participation in the activities of the 29th edition of the Doha International Book Fair, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has organised two workshops. The first workshop touched on copyrights and related rights while the second workshop shed light on the Marrakesh Treaty to facilitate access to published works for persons who are blind, visually impaired or otherwise print disabled.

The first workshop underscored the importance of protecting copyrights and related rights as key elements when it comes promoting Intellectual Property in cultural industries. The workshop featured a breakdown of laws and legislations issued to protect these rights against infringement by third parties and familiarized authors and performers with the best procedures to exercise their financial and literary rights as well as procedures to register copyright and related rights either manually or electronically through the Ministry’s website.

The second workshop touched on the Marrakesh Treaty to facilitate access to published works for persons who are blind, visually impaired or otherwise print disabled, which Qatar has recently joined. Acceding to the Marrakech Treaty raises awareness of the challenges faced by people with print disability, increases access to education, promotes social and cultural integration, reduces poverty and bolsters contributions to the national economy.
