Doha: Doha International Family Institute (DIFI) has opened registration for its upcoming international conference on “Marriage: Formation and Constituents of Stability,” taking place on February 23-25, 2021, in partnership with the League of Arab States as well as regional and national partners.

The conference will convene policy-makers, social scientists, researchers, and representatives of civil society and non-governmental organizations, and youths on a digital platform to discuss marriage in the modern era, the challenges it faces, and the tools to support it.

Executive Director of DIFI, a member of Qatar Foundation, Dr. Sharifa Noaman Al Emadi, said: “The significance of this conference stems from the importance of the marriage institution itself, as it is the foundation upon which societies are built, and in which generations are raised. Therefore, we must study how to support it, address the current challenges it faces, protect marital relationships, and safeguard it in all possible ways through policies and intervention programs.

“In light of the problems and obstacles we have been going through recently that make the idea of marriage daunting, or make it more vulnerable to termination, we feel an urgent need to extensively discuss the marital institution, specifically in Arab societies. We hope that the discussions yield recommendations and action plans that will strengthen the marriage institution.”

The conference program includes 10 sessions that explore marriage in the Arab world, including Marriage and Socioeconomic Challenges; Age and Marriage: Between Early and Late Marriages; Foundations of a Happy Marriage; Experiences and Challenges of Cross-Border Marriages; Is Technology the Doom of Modern Marriage?; Overcoming the Challenges of Disability and Marriage; The Future of Marriage Policies; Extended Families and Marital Stability; Marriage in the Time of COVID-19; and Marriage in Conflict Zones.

Registration for the conference is available via the DIFI website, https://event.difi.org.qa/. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided during the conference.
