Doha: Qatar University (QU) has achieved its highest-ever finish in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings, the 2021 edition.

Climbing an impressive 17 places from 52nd in 2020, QU ranked 35th this year and has managed to maintain or improve its position in every edition of the annual Asia University Rankings since it began in 2013.

The achievement is all the more impressive given a record 551 universities from 30 countries and regions included in this year’s table, making these the most competitive rankings yet.

Phil Baty, Chief Knowledge Officer at THE commented on the achievement, saying: “The THE Asia University Rankings are becoming increasingly competitive every year, with more universities across more countries and regions participating. So, it’s a testament to the strength of Qatar University that it has either maintained or improved its position in the rankings every single year since they were launched. It’s a truly incredible achievement.”

The THE Asia University Rankings 2021 use the same 13 performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings but are recalibrated to reflect the attributes of Asia’s institutions.

The universities are judged across performance indicators that are grouped into five areas: teaching (25%), research (30%), citations (30%), international outlook (7.5%), and industry income (7.5%), to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available. To be eligible for qualification, universities must have qualified for the latest THE World University Rankings.
