Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is being honoured with National Order of Merit by President Lenin Moreno of the Republic of Ecuador at the “Carondelet Palace” in Quito.
DOHA: Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and President Lenin Moreno of the Republic of Ecuador discussed ways to boost and develop prospects of bilateral relations between the two friendly countries in various fields, especially economy, trade and tourism.
During the meeting held on Monday evening at the Presidential “Carondelet Palace” in Quito, H H the Amir and the President of Ecuador exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest.
The meeting was attended by a number of Their Excellencies members of the official accompanying delegation. On the Ecuadorian side, it was attended by a number of Their Excellencies Ministers. Upon arrival at the Presidential Palace, H H the Amir was accorded an official reception.
H H the Amir was presented with the National Order of Merit by the President of Ecuador at the “Carondelet Palace”.
The President said that this Merit is the highest award to be presented to heads of state, and it is a tribute to the good relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, which described as fruitful and not new.
H H the Amir has received the Key to Quito City, capital of the Republic of Ecuador, as a guest of honour to the Republic and as an expression of the depth of friendship relations between the two countries.
The Mayor of Quito, Mauricio Rodas, handed over the Key to H H the Amir during a ceremony held yesterday at the “La Capilla del Hombre” museum, in the presence of a number of Ecuadorian officials.
H H the Amir and the President, on Monday evening, held an official session of talks, at the “Carondelet Palace”.
At the beginning of the meeting, the President welcomed H H the Amir and the accompanying delegation, noting the warm welcome by the Ecuadorian people to H H the Amir, and expressed the hope that this visit would contribute to deepening and developing relations of the two friendly countries and to push them for further partnership and investment.
The President said that the meeting with H H the Amir dealt with ways of enhancing cooperation in fields of common interest, especially in the areas of energy, infrastructure and other fields. H H the Amir expressed his thanks to the President and the Ecuadorian people for their hospitality and warm reception accorded to him and the accompanying delegation.
H H the Amir said that the relationship between the two countries is solid and strong stressing that this visit will be a new start to further strengthen relations, especially in the economic and trade fields and in various domains.
Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani expressed the State of Qatar’s confidence in the Ecuadorian economy and the investment climate, and the outcome of the technical meetings in this field. H H the Amir added that Qatar investments are for future generations in Qatar. H H the Amir also praised Ecuador’s positions towards the just issues in the Arab world.
The expanded talks dealt with ways of strengthening the cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic and social fields, where H H the Amir and the President affirmed their keenness to promote the political dialogue between the two countries in addition to the effective cooperation in energy, tourism, infrastructure, environmental protection, youth and sports sectors.
H H the Amir also discussed ways of activating the agreements and memoranda of understandings (MoUs) signed between the two sides in order to meet the aspirations of the two friendly peoples.
In the regional and international fields, the latest developments were discussed where H H the Amir and the President stressed the importance of continuing close coordination on common issues at multilateral organisations and international forums such as the United Nations and the Group of 77.
On the Middle East issues, the President praised Qatar’s firm stance towards the Palestinian issue, and Qatar’s handling of the Gulf crisis, which the President expressed the importance of resolving it through dialogue and diplomatic means.
At the end of the talks, H H the Amir invited the President to visit the State of Qatar, and the President welcomed the invitation.
H H the Amir and the President witnessed the signing of an agreement and a number of memoranda of understandings (MOUs) between the governments of the State of Qatar and the Republic of Ecuador.
They witnessed the signing of an agreement in the field of environmental protection and nature aimed at expanding and developing joint cooperation in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development, as well as a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation to establish the Joint Ministerial Committee for Economic, Commercial and Technical Cooperation aimed at developing ways of cooperation and relations between the two countries in the mentioned fields within the framework of common interest and mutual benefit.
H H the Amir and the President also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the fields of youth and sports aimed at enhancing the exchange of visits between the two countries, and exchanging information and opinions on areas related to youth and sports activities, besides the signing of a joint declaration of cooperation in the agricultural field between the Ministry of Municipality and Environment in Qatar and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in the Republic of Ecuador aimed at developing cooperation between the two countries to increase the volume of exchange of agricultural products.
H H the Amir also attended a dinner banquet hosted by President Lenin Moreno, in honour of His Highness and the accompanying delegation at the Presidential “Carondelet Palace”, in Quito.
During the function, the President of Ecuador congratulated H H the Amir and the Qatari people on the occasion of receiving the hosting of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, praising the infrastructure in Qatar, especially football stadium facilities. The banquet was attended by a number of Ecuadorian Ministers.
The President said that the Ecuadorian government seeks to strengthen the bonds of the strategic relations between the two countries, expressing aspiration to expand them in the future, especially that the doors of Ecuador are open to Qatari partners.
The President paid tribute to the State of Qatar, saying that Qatar is a model for the States that are fighting for a more equitable world based on rights and principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.
For his part, H H the Amir thanked the President for this honour which shows the strong relations and mutual trust between the two countries, expressing ambition to develop and promote them in various fields. The honouring was attended by Their Excellencies members of the accompanying official delegation.
On the Ecuadorian side, it was attended by a number of Their Excellencies the Ministers and senior officials. H H the Amir also met yesterday with President of the National Assembly of Ecuador, Elizabeth Cabezas, and its members, at the Assembly’s building in Quito.
The meeting discussed ways of strengthening the friendly relations and cooperation between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Ecuador in various fields, especially in the field of parliamentary and legislative cooperation. The meeting was attended by members of the official delegation accompanying H H the Amir.
Later yesterday, H H the Amir left Quito after a two-day state visit to the Republic of Ecuador, heading to the Republic of Peru. H H the Amir also sent a cable to the President of the Republic of Ecuador expressing deep thanks and appreciation for the hospitality and honour accorded to H H the Amir
and the accompanying delegation during the visit, which allowed meeting with the President and exchanging views on issues of common concern and means of strengthening and promoting the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries in various fields for the good and the benefit of the two peoples.
H H the Amir wished the President the best of health and happiness, and the friendly people of Ecuador further progress and prosperity.
