As the countdown starts for the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2020, to be hosted by Doha from today, the Safety and Security Operations Committee (SSOC) of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 has completed the security preparations for the tournament.
“All the units of the SSOC are ready to perform the tasks entrusted to them to secure the tournament and guarantee the safety of all participants and fans. They will provide all facilities starting from teams’ arrival at the airport and while they move to the hotels, and at training venues and stadiums,” said Major General Engineer Abdulaziz Al Ansari, Chairman of the SSOC.
Major General Al Ansari confirmed that the Committee had made high-level contacts with the authorities concerned in the FIFA and in the countries whose teams participate in the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2020 to ensure necessary security arrangements for participating teams, fans, sports missions and the media.
He pointed out that the Committee’s various units possess sufficient experience to perform their tasks in a required manner as they have received different training and attended many workshops. “Many of them have already contributed to the security coverage of the several sporting events hosted by the state during the last period," Al Ansari said.
This championship will add more experiences to the security cadres, he said. There is excellent cooperation with the competent authorities in FIFA and the country’s concerned authorities, especially in light of the medical procedures followed by the Ministry of Health, which aim to ensure everyone’s safety.
“The success achieved in previous tournaments and sporting events held in Qatar will continue in the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2020 and in all upcoming tournaments leading up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which will be a unique championship,” noted Maj. Gen. Al Ansari.
Lieutenant-Colonel Khalifa Shaheen Al Dossari, the tournament’s security commander, said that all units of the Committee are fully prepared for the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2020, which starts at Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium today, February 4, 2021.
“The security arrangements are proceeding according to the set plan in light of the Corona pandemic while applying medical protocol for the tournament by the concerned authorities”, said Al Dossari.
He pointed out that the Non-Competitive Facilities Unit’s role, which is responsible for securing missions during their arrival at the airport and during their stay at the residence, has increased.
“The committee’s work plan ensures smooth flow of the public while providing them all security services in accordance with the best international standards,” he said.
Lt. Col. Khalifa Al Dosari stressed that the attendance of 30 per cent of the stadium’s capacity would not constitute a great pressure on the Committee’s units than previous tournaments attended by a large audience.
