Director-General of the General Directorate of Endowments, Engineer Hassan bin Abdullah Al Marzouqi
Doha, Qatar: The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has launched the Cancer Patients Treatment Endowment under the Healthcare Endowment Fund, with the aim of supporting the treatment of cancer patients and ensuring the sustainability of healthcare services provided to them, in coordination with the country’s relevant health authorities.
The initiative forms part of the Directorate’s efforts to further develop the healthcare endowment system and expand its scope to meet evolving community needs by creating sustainable endowment resources that support the healthcare sector and strengthen the role of endowments in assisting cancer patients.
On the occasion Director-General of the General Directorate of Endowments, Engineer Hassan bin Abdullah Al Marzouqi, said the endowment aims to help ease the financial burden associated with cancer treatment by supporting the provision of medicines, medical equipment, and essential supplies through the establishment of a sustainable endowment resource that ensures the continuity of care for eligible patients.
He added that the endowment is inspired by the Qur’anic verse: “Whoever saves a life, it is as if he has saved all mankind,” and seeks to relieve the suffering of patients and their families through the establishment of income-generating endowment projects whose proceeds will contribute to the treatment of cancer patients, ensuring sustainable support and a lasting charitable impact in this humanitarian field.
Al Marzouqi explained that contributing to the endowment means establishing permanent endowment assets that will be invested and preserved, with their annual returns allocated to covering treatment costs, purchasing medicines, medical equipment and supplies, based on approved priorities and needs, in coordination with the relevant health authorities.
He noted that the Cancer Patients Treatment Endowment is one of the outcomes of the Waqf Al-Wuquf Endowment, an initiative that establishes new endowment assets and investment projects each year, with their proceeds allocated to support various endowment funds and endowments in accordance with donors’ wishes.
He added that the new endowment provides philanthropists and charitable donors with the opportunity to contribute to the establishment of a variety of endowment projects, including real estate, companies, investment ventures, shares, and other income-generating assets.
The proceeds from these investments will be dedicated to supporting cancer treatment, ensuring the continuity of giving and achieving sustainable social development, in accordance with Qatar’s endowment law, which permits the endowment of real estate, movable assets, shares, securities, and other eligible assets.
The Cancer Patients Treatment Endowment is part of the Healthcare Endowment Fund, which supports endowment initiatives and projects aimed at enhancing healthcare services, contributing to patient treatment, purchasing medicines, medical equipment and supplies, and building partnerships with public and private sector entities to strengthen the healthcare sector and promote social solidarity.
The General Directorate of Endowments established the Healthcare Endowment Fund based on the belief that high-quality healthcare services are a key indicator of a society’s development and progress.
The fund serves as a model of community participation in supporting this vital sector through sustainable healthcare endowments and initiatives.
