Qatar participates in 15th meeting of SMIIC’s General Assembly

Doha: The State of Qatar participated yesterday in the 15th meeting of the General Assembly of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). 

During the meeting, which was held via videoconferencing, the State of Qatar was represented by Chairman of Qatar General Organization for Standardization and Metrology (QGOSM), Engineer Mohammed bin Saud Al Musallam. 

During the meeting, several important topics have been discussed, as the Secretary-General of the institute reviewed the most important activities, as well as the situation related to the terms of reference that fall within the responsibilities of the General Secretariat at OIC’s SMIIC, in addition to brief information on the technical issues of the institute’s organs in the fields of standardization, metrology and accreditation, since the previous meeting (14th) of the institute’s General Assembly. 

The institute’s Secretary-General reviewed his report on the efforts made to contain the challenges arising from the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the decisions taken in the 20th meeting of the board of directors. He also provided an overview of the specialised councils at the SMIIC, which are the Standardization Management Council, the Metrology Council and the Accreditation Council. During the meeting, the membership applications submitted by a number of countries were presented and accepted, according to which the number of member states reached 45 states, including three countries in observer status.
