QU honours Summer Research Internship 2020 students

Doha: Qatar University’s (QU) Research and Graduate Studies Sector organised a virtual ceremony to honour participating students on Research Internship 2020 via WebEx. The ceremony was attended by  Prof. Mariam Al Maadeed, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, the directors of research centres, Faculty, researchers and students.

The Summer Research Internship 2020, was conducted from June 7 to July 2 and included students, lab staff and researchers to learn & develop research skills in graduate and under graduate students of all the colleges at QU.

The training was organized at six research centres, Center for Advanced Materials (CAM), Biomedical Research Center (BRC), Laboratory Animal Research Center (LARC), Central Laboratories Unit (CLU), Qatar University Young Scientists Center (YSC) and Social & Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI), under the supervisor of office of Vice president for Research & Graduate studies.

The team included; Taher Al Otaibi from CLU, Amine Zaidi from BRC, Dhabya Al Khater from LARC, Sofia Basha from SESRI, Aldana Alyafei from CAM and Aisha Al Thani from YSC.

Around 150 students from different colleges actively participated in the program, covering 17 specific topics.

Office of VP for research and graduate studies plans to continue its efforts to conduct such a program every summer and enhance undergraduate and graduate students’ research culture and participation in research activities. 

The ceremony included reports of improvements and outcomes of internship programs, thank you notes from each student’s directors, and success stories from each student to present their research. 

Acting Director of Research Planning & Development Dr. Abdelbary Mohamed El-Hissi, stated that hosting the summer internship 2020 through electronic platforms has proven QU’s ability to be responsive to the conditions caused by Covid-19 pandemic. This happened through effective technology and providing evidence that the University has advanced in terms of digital transformation to facilitate the provision of regular education and nontraditional opportunities of research training.
