Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Municipality has invited the public to participate in a beach cleanup campaign at Beach 974 on Friday, August 7, aimed at protecting Qatar’s marine environment and fostering a culture of volunteerism and shared community responsibility.
The initiative, announced via the Ministry’s official social media channels, is scheduled to begin at 6pm. Officials emphasised that maintaining clean beaches is a collective duty, urging residents, families and visitors to join the effort under the slogan “Our Sea, Our Responsibility.”
In its invitation, the Ministry stated: “The Ministry of Municipality is pleased to invite you to participate in the Beach 974 Cleanup Campaign as we work together to protect our marine environment and promote a culture of volunteerism and community responsibility. Keeping our beaches clean is everyone’s responsibility… Together, we make a difference.”
The campaign aligns with national priorities under Qatar National Vision 2030 and the country’s broader sustainability agenda, including the Qatar Zero Waste initiative. Beach 974, a popular recreational destination featuring large “974” sculptures and panoramic views of the Doha skyline, attracts families and tourists year-round. Regular cleanups help preserve its appeal while reducing plastic and other waste that threatens marine ecosystems.
Participants are encouraged to arrive on time, bring water and sun protection, and follow any on-site guidance provided by Ministry teams. The event is open to all and forms part of ongoing efforts to keep Qatar’s coastline pristine amid rising recreational use.
The Ministry underscored that individual actions, when combined, create meaningful impact. “Clean beaches are our shared responsibility,” the announcement reiterated, calling on the community to turn out in support of a healthier marine environment.
