Doha, Qatar: The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) has reaffirmed that the principles of personal data privacy protection serve as the essential foundation for ensuring responsible and legally compliant data processing across the State of Qatar.
In an awareness initiative published on X, the agency outlined the core legal standards governing the collection, processing, and protection of personal information in accordance with Law No. (13) of 2016 Concerning the Protection of Personal Data Privacy.
Under the framework of Law No. (13) of 2016, the NCSA detailed seven key principles designed to safeguard individual rights and govern corporate compliance.
Under Article 3, the principle of transparency, honesty, and respect for human dignity requires that personal data be processed in a clear, fair, and transparent manner.
To ensure integrity and confidentiality under Articles 3, 8(3), and 13, entities must establish appropriate administrative, technical, and financial precautions to protect data against loss, damage, unauthorised disclosure, or unlawful access.
The regulatory framework also imposes strict limits on how data is handled throughout its lifecycle. Pursuant to Articles 5(3) and 10, purpose limitation dictates that information must only be processed for its intended purpose, while data minimisation restricts collection strictly to what is necessary and relevant.
Article 10 further mandates that companies maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date data, while enforcing storage limitations so information is not retained longer than necessary to achieve lawful objectives. Additionally, Article 11(5) establishes institutional accountability by requiring internal management systems and mandatory reporting of procedure breaches.
Operating under the national slogan ‘Data Privacy Starts with You,’ the agency emphasised the shared responsibility between organisations and individuals in maintaining a secure digital environment.
