ROLACC hosts Palestinian delegation for UN anti-corruption training

Doha: The Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Center in Doha (ROLACC), in cooperation with the United Nations office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) this week held a training workshop for a Palestinian delegation of government experts. 

The workshop, which lasted for two days at the ROLACC center, was designed to assist delegates working with the United Nations Convention Against Corruption. Representatives from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime led the training, supported by members of the ROLACC staff.

The workshop was opened by the Acting Director of ROLACC Judge Yasser Rafiae with a speech welcoming the delegation. He then reviewed the principles and mechanism of implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption and explained the structure of the training.

This training, the first of its kind to be held in the GCC, also included a presentation by. Mohammed Sharbel, the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer at the UNODC, who explained the model timeline for the reviews and reviewed the articles of the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

On the second and final day, Judge Mohammed Al Askari, an expert on asset recovery, gave a presentation on the practical difficulties encountered when recovering stolen or laundered funds. Sharbel then completed the training course by focusing on the provisions of the Convention against Corruption concerning the recovery of funds.

The Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Centre provides local, regional and international training courses for various institutions and bodies in the field of the rule of law, combating corruption and governance in the Middle East and North Africa region.
