Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, represented by the Department of Islamic Research and Studies, is set to hold today evening its third seminar within the fourth season of its cultural initiative “Ummah Seminar,” organised under the theme “Knowledge of Revelation.”
Titled “Knowledge of Revelation… The Certain Source of the Laws of Human Society,” the seminar will take place after Isha prayer at Imam Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab Mosque. It will bring together a distinguished group of scholars and academics from the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Qatar University, including Prof Ramadan Khamis Zaki Abdel Tawab, Dr. Mahmoud Nimer Al-Naffar, and Dr. Aziz Al-Bataywi.
The seminar will explore the concept of revelation as a definitive source for understanding the governing principles of human societies. Discussions will be structured around three main themes. The first examines the certainty of revelation as a source and its foundational role in identifying social laws, addressing topics such as the patterns of human and cosmic existence, lessons from historical experience, and insights from Quranic narratives on societal rise and decline.
The second focuses on the role of the human intellect as a tool for comprehension, interpretation, and effective application of these laws. It will highlight the importance of reflection and exploration as both divine guidance and human action, as well as the role of proper utilization of these principles in achieving societal advancement.
The third presents a forward-looking vision, emphasising the need to enhance the functions of the intellect to better understand and apply the laws governing human societies.
Sheikh Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Thani, Director of the Department of Islamic Research and Studies, described the “Ummah Seminar” as a key cultural and intellectual initiative aligned with the Ministry’s mission to promote knowledge rooted in revelation.
He noted that the seminar series is held quarterly and brings together leading thinkers and experts to address intellectual and cultural challenges, propose solutions to social issues, and offer treatments for pressing societal concerns.
He added that the current season, launched in October 2025, began with a seminar on revelation as a reference framework for rational knowledge, exploring the relationship between revelation and intellect and presenting a forward-looking vision grounded in both. The season is scheduled to conclude in July with a seminar on revelation as a pathway to “civilisational inheritance,” focusing on its role in preparing individuals to contribute to contemporary civilization.
The second seminar, held in January, examined revelation as a foundation for knowledge production in Islamic civilization, discussing its roots, continuity, and future prospects in light of the integration between revelation and human intellect.
