DOHA: Rowdat Al Fars Bustard Breeding Center run by the Natural Reserve Office at the Ministry of Municipality was honored at the 5th Lebretha Heritage Festival 2017 for supporting the event.
Hamad Yaqub Al Rumaihi, Deputy Director of the Natural Reserve Office received the award at the festival organised by Al Dhakhira Youth Centre on Saturday, said a report posted on the website of the Ministry. The Ministry of Municipality and Environment is breeding an endangered bird, Habara Bustard in various farms and bird sanctuaries across the country.
To increase the population of Habara, the Ministry also opened multiple farms in Qatar and abroad.
The farms of the Ministry in Qatar and abroad produce between 1,300 to 1,600 Habara birds per year.
Once the birds grow up, the farms release them to grassland for environment purpose.
Two types of Habara — Asian and African — are being bred at the farms of the ministry separately without being hybridized.
The Ministry is also breeding many other species of birds such as quail, Karawan, catbird, bird of the pheasant and Arabian bird at its bird centuries. The bird lovers also received necessary technical supports and consultancies related to breeding such birds from the Ministry.
