Qatar, UK discuss trade cooperation

Doha: Minister of Commerce and Industry and Acting Minister of Finance, H E Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, met yesterday with H E Ranil Jayawardena, UK Minister for International Trade, and the accompanying delegation currently visiting the country.

The meeting was attended by H E Simon Penney, Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for the Middle East. During the meeting, officials reviewed the relations between the two countries and discussed aspects of joint cooperation, especially in the trade, investment and industrial fields, as well as ways to enhance and develop them. 

Officials also discussed trade policies between the two countries and the efforts made by both sides in the context of confronting the COVID-19 pandemic. During the meeting, H E Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari highlighted the economic policies that Qatar had adopted and its contribution to abolishing restrictions on foreign investment and creating more investment opportunities for companies looking to invest in Qatar. The volume of trade exchange between Qatar and the United Kingdom amounted to nearly $3bn in 2020. The United Kingdom ranks as Qatar’s seventh trade partner.
