Doha: Nearly 900 snakes, including venomous cobras, escaped from a snake farm in southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region after floodwaters destroyed the facility, with some residents reportedly bitten, according to local media reports.
The incident occurred on July 6 after heavy rainfall linked to Typhoon Maysak triggered widespread flooding across the region, damaging reservoirs and inundating low-lying areas.
According to the reports, the Hengzhou Emergency Management Bureau confirmed it was aware of the snake escape and reports of injuries, adding that rescue personnel had been deployed to the affected areas.
A local resident told CCTV that snake farms are located in both low-lying areas and on hillsides across the township. He said some villagers were unable to access medical care after becoming trapped by rising floodwaters.
Authorities said further details would be released after damage assessments are completed. Meanwhile, residents have been urged not to handle any snakes they encounter and to immediately report sightings to the relevant authorities.
