A delegation from the District Cooling Services Department at Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has visited the District Cooling Stations at Qatar University as part of its functions and role in monitoring and regulating the district cooling services in the country.

The visit included three working stations and one under construction, which provide all faculties and facilities of the university which currently exceeds 63 buildings and 10 buildings under construction in addition to the university housing with district cooling services, with a current cooling capacity of 31,000 tonnes cooling and a future capacity of 56,000 tonnes cooling.

The use of district cooling system in residential and commercial projects is a significant contribution to saving electricity consumption by 30 percent to 40 percent and desalinated water by up to 98 percent by switching to the use of treated water as well as reducing carbon dioxide emissions by reducing the consumption of natural gas needed to produce electricity and improve environment and reduce noise pollution.

This visit comes within the framework of achieving Kahramaa’s objectives in monitoring and regulating the work of district cooling services in Qatar and the added value of these services in the infrastructure to keep pace with the urban expansion in the country and the expansion witnessed by Qatar University and the increase in the number of educational and administrative buildings, university housing and advanced facilities that it provides.
