Qatar Charity opens Al Shaimaa Secondary School for Girls in Gaza

Doha: Qatar Charity (QC) celebrated the opening of Al Shaimaa Secondary School for Girls in Beit Lahia, north of the Gaza Strip, in co-operation with the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education. 

The school was built with the support and financing from ‘Qatar Cyclists’ and many Qatari companies at a cost of QR5.4m.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Khalid Al Yafie, Project Manager at QC, a team of ‘Qatar Cyclists’, many local government officials, representatives of civil society organisations, dignitaries and prominent figures, who expressed their happiness with the school opening. Khaled Al Yafie, said: “This project would demonstrate the depth of brotherly relations between Qatar and Palestine, affirming QC’s commitment to supporting the needs of the Palestinian people. The education is one of the most important sectors that we focus on, as we have implemented many educational projects to support schools and universities within the last few years in Gaza.”

He said that QC has garnered the support for the school project, in partnership with the Qatar Cyclists Club and under the umbrella of Qatar’s Ministry of Culture and Sports. He pointed out that the project came, as part of the ‘Cyclists for Education’ initiative to provide quality education to female students in the north of Beit Lahia and surrounding areas.

Dr. Mohammed Jeham Al Kuwari, President of the Qatar Cycling Federation, expressed his pleasure at the opening of the school. The Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in the Gaza Strip, Dr. Ziad Thabet, thanked H H the Amir, Government and people of Qatar for supporting the people in Gaza and Palestine.
