Doha: The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), in partnership with the Qatari Forum for Authors at the Ministry of Culture and Sports, launched the book Human Rights and Sustainable Development by Vice-Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari.
The book focuses on strengthening the cooperation of the concerned authorities in the government with human rights institutions, as they are an essential party in the process of achieving sustainable development based on a human rights approach. In addition to strengthening international cooperation, by holding more international partnerships and learning about models of countries that have experienced sustainable development to benefit from the policies and programs adopted, in order to achieve the partnership called for by the United Nations in the seventeenth goal of the sustainable development goals set by the United Nations.
Assistant Secretary-General of the National Human Rights Committee Sultan Bin Hassan Al Jamali, participated during the launching, with interventions on the importance of the issues raised by the book, while the discussion was moderated by Director of Qatar Forum for Authors Maryam Al Hammadi.
Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari explained that the book Human Rights and Sustainable Development reviews the sustainable development goals that are closely related to the principles of human rights approved by international documents and agreements issued by the United Nations. The eradication of poverty and hunger is a human right to life, well-being, dignity and health, and the provision of clean water and sanitation is a human right to health, well-being and a healthy environment, and that that providing decent work and economic growth is a human right to work, well-being and development, explaining that all sustainable development goals are a human right guaranteed by the constitution and the laws and legislation in force, he noted.
