DOHA: Over 867 tonnes of local vegetables were sold under ‘Qatar Farms Program’ and ‘Premium Qatar Farms Program’ in July, 2020.

Qatar Farms Program helped in marketing over 624 tonnes vegetables and the contribution of Premium Qatar Farms Program was 243 tonnes of vegetables, said the Ministry of Municipality and Environment in a statement.

The marketing programme of local products is being run by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry at a number of major commercial outlets like Al Meera, Lulu Hypermarkets, Family Food Center (FFC) and Carrefour.

Both the programmes enable local farms to supply their produce to commercial outlets without middlemen.

The initiatives aim at proving reasonable prices to local farmers for their investments and hard-work by offering farm fresh vegetables to the customers at competitive prices.

The good yield also encourages local farms to increase their production.
