Doha, Qatar: Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) has launched a three-month awareness campaign targeting workers throughout June, July, and August as part of its ongoing efforts to reach all segments of the community, raise awareness of the most common types of cancer, and promote a culture of prevention and early detection.
The campaign is being implemented at Al Jumaila Health Center and Messaimeer Health Centre in collaboration with the Qatar Red Crescent. It focuses on raising awareness about skin, blood, and liver cancers through simplified health messages and educational activities designed to increase awareness of risk factors, symptoms, prevention methods, and the importance of early detection.
The initiative reflects QCS’s commitment to reaching the worker population, as they may be at greater risk of certain cancer-related factors due to the nature of their work, prolonged exposure to sunlight, and other environmental and occupational risks.
The campaign also emphasises the importance of adopting healthy and preventive behaviours in the workplace, adhering to safety measures, receiving recommended vaccinations, and undergoing regular medical check-ups to facilitate early detection, thereby improving treatment outcomes and survival rates.
The campaign includes interactive awareness sessions, as well as the distribution of multilingual educational materials to ensure that health messages are accessible to workers from diverse nationalities and cultural backgrounds, empowering them to adopt healthier lifestyles and preventive practices.
Commenting on the initiative, Health Educator at Qatar Cancer Society, Nour Makkia said, “This campaign reflects the Society’s vision of enhancing community awareness about cancer, with a strong focus on prevention and early detection as the cornerstone of reducing cancer incidence.
We have made every effort to deliver our awareness messages in multiple languages to ensure they reach all segments of society, particularly workers from different nationalities. The positive engagement we have witnessed demonstrates the community’s interest in receiving reliable health information that helps them protect their health.”
She added, “This campaign is part of a series of awareness programmes implemented by the Society throughout the year to promote a culture of prevention and emphasis the importance of early screening. Through these initiatives, participants learn about cancer, its warning signs, associated risk factors, prevention strategies, and the value of early detection. Such efforts contribute to reducing cancer incidence and mortality rates in the State of Qatar while supporting the country’s broader public health and quality of life objectives.”
Qatar Cancer Society continues to implement awareness programmes and initiatives in partnership with various national health organisations, reaffirming its commitment to building a more informed community, encouraging individuals to take responsibility for their health, and reducing the burden of cancer through prevention and early detection.
