Cabinet lauds Amir’s directive to send aid to Sudan

Doha: The Cabinet has appreciated the directives of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to send urgent relief aid to Sudan to alleviate the effects of the floods that has affected several regions.

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani chaired the Cabinet regular meeting held at the Amiri Diwan, yesterday.

Following the meeting, Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Dr. Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi issued the following statement:

The Cabinet affirmed the State of Qatar’s solidarity with Sudan in facing the effects of these floods and expressed sincere condolences to the families of the victims, the government and the Sudanese people, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.

The Cabinet was briefed by H E Minister of Public Health on the latest developments in efforts to curb coronavirus (COVID-19) and affirmed the continuation of work with the precautionary measures taken to combat the pandemic.

Based on the directives of     H E the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior on providing the Council of Ministers with plans related to the competencies of ministries and other government agencies, public bodies and institutions, H E Minister of Transport and Communications gave a presentation on the detailed plan for the strategy of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. 

The strategic objectives of the sectors and administrative units of the Ministry are ease of access, financial and environmental sustainability, security and safety, smooth movement, economic development, establishment of a flexible, smart and integrated infrastructure, empowering a digitally advanced workforce and society, enhancing confidence and digital security, developing the smart government agenda and using technology to develop a regionally competitive smart economy.

The Ministry has worked to supervise and implement projects of national priority in order to achieve the plans of Qatar National Vision 2030, and has also adopted an additional set of projects stipulated in the Second National Development Strategy.

One of the projects is implementing the expansion of Hamad Port through the establishment of the second container terminal and opening of direct and indirect shipping lines, with many seaports of the global maritime traffic.

Another mega project is Hamad International Airport expansion, which aims to increase the airport’s capacity to reach 53 million passengers annually.

The Ministry is working on electrical transformation projects for buses and electric vehicles, in cooperation with the concerned authorities.

It is also working on field survey of road assets. The work on this project is carried out by using the latest and advanced technology to build an information system on its level of performance and the impact of the environment and climate on it. 

The Ministry is also working on Qatar’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, which aims to adopt the artificial intelligence and harness it to secure the economic and strategic future of Qatar as is envisaged by Qatar National Strategy 2030 and the Qatar Smart Program (TASMU). It is designed specifically to accelerate the achievement of all pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030. 

The Cabinet reviewed a draft law on the regulation of hybrid electric vehicles, and the appropriate decision was taken in this regard. 

The Cabinet also reviewed approval of a draft law on endowment and approval of a draft agreement on providing jobs for junior technicians between the government of the State of Qatar and the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef).
