QA’s in-flight catering subsidiary wins 15 awards

Doha: Chefs from Qatar Airways’ in-flight catering subsidiary, Qatar Aircraft Catering Company (QACC), won 15 awards, including Gold and Silver, at the Fourth Hospitality Qatar event held at the Doha Exhibition & Convention Centre on November 8.

Judged by a panel of 11 world-class culinary experts, 24 QACC chefs beat stiff competition from more than 400 professionals representing 52 hotels and restaurants across Qatar at the annual event, which was organised by Qatar Culinary Professionals and Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA).

Showcasing their skills and expertise in all areas of the culinary arts, the QACC team won Gold for their work in the ‘Master Showpiece’ category and Silver for the ‘Chocolate Show Piece’ section, taking part in a variety of competitive categories including live cooking demonstrations, fruits and ice carving, Qatari and international desserts, as well as the event’s main gastronomical contest, the Salon Culinaire.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker, said: “We are thrilled to extend our congratulations to QACC team, whose outstanding skills and expertise have been duly recognised at this key event for the hospitality industry in Qatar. Each day, the QACC team currently prepare an average of 150,000 meals, across 60 international cuisines for Qatar Airways flights, as well as other international airlines and lounges within our home and hub, Hamad International Airport (HIA). They play a vital role in ensuring that passengers can enjoy unrivalled standards of service, along with the best dining available in the sky.”

Launched in 2002, QACC is the sole catering company exclusively providing in-flight catering for Qatar Airways, other international airlines, hub lounges, Emiri and VIP flights, operating around the clock from its 69,000 square metre self-catering facility at HIA.

In addition the QACC team’s achievements in the Fourth Hospitality Qatar event, the airline’s renowned dine-on-demand in flight cuisine was also named ‘Best Catering’ in the annual AirlineRatings’ Airline Excellence Awards 2019, alongside Qatar Airways’ revolutionary Qsuite which was named ‘Best Business Class’.
