Doha: The General Cleanliness Department of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has announced its preparations of waste removal and cleaning across the country by increasing sanitation workers, garbage trucks and garbage containers ahead of Ramadan.

A significant increase in waste is recorded during Ramadan, including organic and solid waste, mainly due to many citizens and residents’ renewal of home furniture. About 1,482 workers, 659 drivers, 1,112 garbage trucks, and 158 monitors are participating in these efforts.

Also, the MME has distributed 75,615 garbage containers across the country. The work plan includes replacing small-sized garbage containers with larger ones to match the amount of waste in densely populated areas, conducting cleaning campaigns around mosques, and increasing the number of cleaners in the main streets to collect waste.

The General Cleanliness Department urged the public to collect household waste in designated bags and dispose of them correctly to ease collection and avoid littering. It also advised people not to park their vehicles close to the garbage containers, which may hinder the collection process. The Public Cleanliness Department distributes containers according to a particular mechanism and criteria, as they are provided base on the need and evaluation from the work team.

The Department started its preparation for Ramadan early in its bid to achieve a sustainable environment. The Department hopes that all citizens and residents will help in the success of this plan. It stressed that people could communicate with the Department if they have some household items they want to be removed instead of discarding them in the street.
