Doha, Qatar: The Second Football Championship for Imams, Muezzins and their sons, organised by the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, represented by the Public Relations and Communication Department, continues amid a vibrant sporting atmosphere and strong participation from imams, muezzins and their sons.
Ten days after the tournament kicked off on July 27, participants have continued to deliver impressive performances, reflecting the intensity of the competition and their determination to achieve positive results as the group-stage qualifiers draw to a close. Three matches are being played each day, attracting strong participation and support from spectators and fans of the competing teams.
The championship is being conducted under a format designed to ensure competitiveness. Each team consists of six starting players and six substitutes.
Under the tournament’s technical regulations, two imams or muezzins must remain on the pitch throughout the match, reinforcing the championship’s main objective of bringing imams and muezzins together with their sons in a shared sporting and interactive environment. Each team plays four matches during the group stage before the teams advancing to the quarter-finals are determined.
As the tournament enters its decisive stages, the leading contenders for the quarter-finals have begun to emerge following strong performances in the previous rounds. However, the qualification spots have yet to be officially decided, with several important group-stage matches still remaining.
The competition will continue until August 22, 2026, with 20 teams comprising imams, muezzins and their sons aged over 15 participating.
All matches are being held at the air-conditioned indoor sports hall of Omar Bin Al Khattab Secondary School for Boys, which is hosting the entire tournament in a suitable sporting environment for participants.
The group stage is scheduled to conclude on Thursday, August 13, when the remaining matches will definitively determine the eight teams advancing to the knockout stages, paving the way for an even more intense and exciting phase of the competition.
The quarter-finals will be played on Sunday and Monday, August 16 and 17, after Isha prayer.
The matches will bring together the tournament’s strongest teams as they seek to build on the impressive performances witnessed during the group stage.
