Qatar’s embassy in the US hosted a panel discussion entitled 'Smarter Cities & Thriving Communities in the Digital Age'. The event was held in cooperation with the Silicon Valley Forum and the US-Qatar Business Council. Representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC), Qatar Financial Center, Qatar Development Bank, Msheireb Properties, in addition to other companies from different industries participated in the event.
Assistant Undersecretary of Digital Society Development at MoTC, HE Reem Al Mansoori, said Qatar Smart Program worked on transforming Qatar into one of the smartest states technologically, as part of the efforts to realise Qatar National Vision 2030 of building a knowledge-based economy.
Al Mansoori highlighted the Msheireb Downtown Doha and the city of Lusail as two projects where digital transformation played a key role in matters like transport, healthcare, logistical services, the environment, and sports.
She also highlighted Qatar’s quick adoption of 5G technology. She added that TASMU provides 60 investment opportunities in the technology industry, noting that the State of Qatar expects to spend more than $9bn on these projects. Returns are expected to be more than $1.4bn by 2024, she said.
For her part, the ministry’s Maha Karim shed light on TASMU’s programmes in different fields. She provided a general overview of the projects that are currently underway and the ones that are in the pipeline.
