Doha, Qatar: Under the patronage of Minister of State and President of Qatar National Library H E Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari, the Arab Book Award is organising an extensive seminar titled “The Arab Book Industry in General, and the Qatari Book in Particular: A Forward-Looking Reading.”

The event will take place on December 14 at Qatar National Library. This seminar comes in conjunction with the celebration of World Arabic Language Day, which falls on December 18 each year.

It reflects the Arab Book Award’s commitment to contributing to the enhancement of cultural activity, supporting the book industry, and open professional discussions about the future of publishing in the region.

The seminar will host a distinguished group of prominent figures in the Arab cultural scene, including academic and historian Dr. Aqil Al-Khatib, winner of the first edition of the Arab Book Prize; Dr. Al-Siddiq Omar, member of the Steering Committee of the Arab Book Award; and Dr. Aisha Jassim Al-Kuwari, CEO of Rosa Publishing House.

The seminar will be moderated by Dr. Mohammed Al-Rahawi, Professor of Arabic Language at Qatar University.

The session will address topics related to the reality of the Arab book industry, transformations in the publishing market, and the challenges facing Arab and Qatari publishing houses.

It will also explore prospects for development in light of digital transformation and the growing initiatives supporting Arabic content.

It is worth noting that the Arab Book Award, headquartered in Doha, is an annual award granted to works authored in Arabic in the fields of social sciences and humanities.

With a total value of one million US dollars, the prize aims to enrich the Arab library by encouraging individuals and institutions to produce distinguished scholarly works, honouring serious studies and promoting them, as well as supporting leading publishing houses to enhance the quality of the Arab book both in form and content.

The prize is divided into two main categories: Single Book and Lifetime Achievement.
