Doha, Qatar: Tributes and condolences poured in from world leaders following the passing of Father Amir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The Amiri Diwan announced the death of HH the Father Amir on Sunday morning July 12, 2026, at the age of 74.
The Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan HE Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed his condolences via his official X account, saying: “Deeply saddened by the passing away of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Former Amir of the State of Qatar.
The Father Amir, late Sheikh Hamad was a great leader and statesman whose wisdom, foresight and dedication to public service, transformed Qatar into a modern, prosperous and globally respected nation. His enduring contributions to the welfare of his nation and its people, as well as to regional peace, development and international cooperation, will be remembered for generations to come.
On behalf of the people and the Government of Pakistan, as well as on my own behalf, I extend our heartfelt condolences to my Dear Brother the Amir of Qatar His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the distinguished members of the Al Thani family, the Government, as well as the brotherly people of Qatar on this solemn occasion. We stand in solidarity with them in this moment of profound grief.
We will always cherish the Father Amir’s warmth, kindness and deep affection for Pakistan, as well as the fond memories of his many visits to our country.
May Allah Almighty grant the departed Father Amir, the highest place in Jannat ul Firdaus, and May He shower His blessings upon the Royal Family and our Qatari brothers and sisters to bear this irreparable loss with strength, patience and fortitude. Ameen.”
Pakistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Mohammad Ishaq Dar, on his X account, said: “Deeply saddened to learn of the passing of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, former Emir of the State of Qatar.”
He added that “during his reign, he played a pivotal role in Qatar’s modern development and in strengthening the bonds of friendship with Pakistan. His visionary leadership and contributions to regional peace will be long remembered.”
“On behalf of the people, Government of Pakistan and myself, I extend heartfelt condolences to the Al Thani family, the Emir, the Government and the people of Qatar,” he continued.
“May Allah Almighty grant the departed soul the highest place in Jannah and give the bereaved family strength to bear this loss. Ameen.”
President of the Arab Republic of Egypt HE Abdel Fattah El-Sisi wrote on his X account: “Deepest condolences and sympathies to the sisterly State of Qatar, to its Amir, government, and people, on the passing of the late Father Amir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. We ask Allah to envelop him in His vast mercy and to bless Qatar and its people with continued security and stability. To Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return.”
The Lebanese Presidency announced that President of the Republic of Lebanon HE General Joseph Aoun, expressed his grief and sorrow over the passing of HH the Father Amir whose passing he said “constitutes a profound loss for the sisterly State of Qatar, for Lebanon, and for the Arab world.”
Prime Minister of the Republic of India HE Narendra Modi also took to social media to express his condolences, saying: “We deeply mourn the passing of Father Amir of State of Qatar, HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. A visionary leader who led Qatar to great levels of development and prosperity, we remember him also as a true friend whom I had the honour of meeting during my last visit to Qatar in February 2024. I convey my sincere condolences to the Amir of Qatar, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the entire royal family and people of Qatar. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace.”
President of the United Arab Emirates HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, stated through his X account: "I extend my sincere condolences and sympathy to my brother @TamimBinHamad and his family on the passing of his father, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. May God grant him mercy, rest his soul in eternal peace, and bring comfort to his family during this difficult time."
The Prime Minister of Malaysia HE Dr. Anwar Ibrahim said: “On behalf of Malaysia, I extend my deepest condolences to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Qatari Royal Family, and the people of the State of Qatar on the passing of His Highness the Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
During his 18 years as Amir, Sheikh Hamad transformed Qatar into a nation of global significance. Under his leadership, Qatar achieved remarkable economic progress and emerged as an influential voice in regional and international affairs. His decision in 2013 to entrust the leadership of the nation to a new generation was a rare act of statesmanship. The Father Amir was a steadfast friend of Malaysia and a respected figure across the Muslim world.

HE Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Republic of Maldives: “Deeply saddened by the passing of His Highness Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al -Thani, former Amir of the State of Qatar, whose visionary leadership contributed significantly to the development and progress of the State of Qatar.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, on the loss of his beloved father, and to the Royal Family, the Government, and the brotherly people of Qatar. May Allah grant the late His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani the highest ranks of Jannatul Firdaus, and bless him with eternal peace and mercy. Aameen”
President of Federal Republic of Somalia H.E Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmaajo: “I send my condolences to the leadership and people of the State of Qatar for the passing of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani @TamimBinHamad.

HM King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, on his X account, sent "deepest condolences and sincerest feelings of solace to my brother, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the sisterly Qatari people on the passing of the late His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani."
"We beseech the Lord, exalted and glorified, to shower him with His mercy, and to preserve the State of Qatar and its people. Verily, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return," HM King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein continued.
