Qatar takes part in Conference of the States Parties to Arab Convention against Corruption

The State of Qatar participated in the third session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Arab Convention against Corruption, which was hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco, with a delegation headed by President of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority (ACTA) H E Hamad bin Nasser Al Missned.
In his speech, H E ACTA President reviewed the experience of the State of Qatar in combating corruption, stressing the development of the national legislative and institutional system to enhance integrity and transparency, and highlighting best practices related to the implementation of the Arab Convention against Corruption.
Al Missned touched on the efforts of the State of Qatar to support the international community, including the adoption of a mechanism to review the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption in 2009, the Doha Declaration in 2015, and the Global Program for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), as well as the establishment of the “Global Judicial Integrity Network.”    
The head of Qatar’s delegation pointed to the launch of the “Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani Anti-Corruption Excellence Award” in 2016, which is awarded annually on the International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9 every year and awarded for those who contributed to the global campaign against corruption. He explained that that the biggest purpose of this award is to serve as a tool that highlights ideal procedures and good practices globally as well as appreciating, promoting, and disseminating anti-corruption models from all over the world. He added that the award aims to raise awareness, support, and solidarity to fight corruption, pointing out that the fourth edition of the award was held in the Republic of Rwanda in December.    
On the sidelines of the conference, President of ACTA Hamad bin Nasser Al Missned held several bilateral meetings with the counterpart heads of anti-corruption bodies, on strengthening bilateral cooperation and exchanging experiences, where some delegations expressed the desire to get briefed on Qatar’s experience in fighting corruption and benefit from it.    
The conference witnessed the participation of several heads of anti-corruption bodies in the States Parties to the Arab Convention Against Corruption, and the presence of regional and international organizations, including the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States, the Arab Parliament, the United Nations Development Program, and the UNODC.   
The conference issued several decisions and recommendations to enhance regional cooperation and opened up new work horizons to unify efforts between anti-corruption bodies in the States Parties to Arab Convention Against Corruption.
