Ouagadougou: Minister of State H E Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani, accompanied by highlevel delegation, and HE President of the Republic of Burkina Faso Rock Marc Christian Kaboré inaugurated a functional radiotherapy center in the city of Ouagadougou.
The project is funded by Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) in cooperation with the government of the Republic of Burkina Faso. The center’s mission is to enhance capabilities and improve the quality of cancer care in Burkina Faso, as well as to minimize seeking adequate treatment abroad and to reduce cancer-related deaths.
The center is built on 3000 square meters of land. It is a 1,200 square meter building fully equipped with all necessary medical equipment. It also provides training to medical personnel to guarantee the best cancer treatment services.
Every year, 1600-1800 people in Burkina Faso are diagnosed with cancer, 60 percent of which are men and 40 percent are women. Therefore, the center is intended to accommodate all these patients and provide them with the necessary treatment and medical care.
“Qatar would not hesitate to exert all needed efforts in helping our brothers in achieving their development goals. Driven by our firm belief that fulfilling humanitarian and development needs, especially health, forms the main gate to political, social and economic stability in each country,” HE Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Jassim Al-Thani said in the opening speech.
For his part, the Director General of QFFD Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari, said: “We take pride in such outstanding accomplishment for Qatar. This pioneer medical edifice is a testament to the quantum leap of advanced therapeutic medical services not only for our friendly state, the Republic of Burkina Faso, but also in West Africa as well. The Center is expected to play a pivotal role in building technical capacities and developing health care services for screening and treating cancer diseases, promoting health, the third SDG, saving lives and inspiring hope and healthier life.”
