Qatar Press Center approves upcoming plans, activities

Doha, Qatar: The Board of Directors of Qatar Press Center (QPC) held its 12th meeting yesterday at the center’s headquarters, where the members of the Board of Directors discussed a number of decisions, approved the plan for the next phase, and the schedule of events and activities.

The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Board of Directors of QPC Saad bin Mohammed Al Rumaihi, Member Jaber Salim Al-Harami, Prof Muhammed Saleh Al Musfir, Member Dr. Khalid Mubarak Al-Shafi, Member Abdullah Talib Al Marri, Member Abdulrahman Majid Al-Qahtani and Director General of QPC Sadiq Muhammad Al Ammari.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Board renewed its sincere condolences to the press and media community and to the family of the late Dr. Rabia bin Sabah Al Kuwari.

They unanimously decided to name the center’s main training hall after him, and to issue a book on his biography highlighting his most prominent journalistic and academic contributions.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of QPC Saad bin Mohammed Al Rumaihi briefed the members on the results of the Gulf Press Union meeting organised by the Center in Doha at end of April, and the accreditation of QPC as a member of the Union, representing Qatar. He added that the procedures had begun to accredit the Center in the Federation of Arab Journalists.

The Board discussed a number of programmes, events and plans that the Center is working on, such as the membership programme; and decided that membership would be available to all working in the media field for a nominal fee against the services provided by the Center to members.

The Center has made great strides in implementing the membership programme, and it is scheduled to be launched in the coming weeks. Members were informed of the latest developments in the website, which contains many sections, and the latest developments in website creating techniques, as well as the mobile app.

Director General of QPC Sadiq Muhammad Al Ammari presented a report on the activities, events, and book publications that took place in the past period. He also touched on the Center’s participation for the first time in the Doha International Book Fair through Dar Al Sharq.

Al Ammari reviewed the development of the Center’s platforms in social media, as the Center’s Instagram page achieved tremendous growth, reaching nearly 21,000 followers within 10 months and reaching 4 million accounts.

The center’s page on X platform also grew to reach more than 4,750 followers and an interaction of 3 million users.

The Director General also touched on the Center’s production of 85 videos, publishing more than 300 press reports, and issuing 18 statements that varied between denouncing Israeli practices against fellow journalists and civilians in Gaza, as well as welcoming international resolutions that would put pressure on the Israeli occupation and punish it for what it is doing against Our Palestinian brothers.

The Board expressed its solidarity for journalists in Gaza and all conflict areas, and demanded to stop targeting media professionals and civilians.

The Qatar Press Center aims to contribute to the development of media and journalistic work, and to pay attention to the affairs of media professionals in accordance with Qatar Vision 2030, which made investing in people a top priority.
