OCA honours Father Amir’s sporting vision

Doha, Qatar: The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) expressed deep sorrow following the passing of the Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, paying tribute to a leader whose vision and commitment helped establish Qatar as a leading sporting nation.

In a statement on behalf of the OCA and the Asian Olympic Movement, the continental body extended its deepest condolences and sympathies to the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, OCA President H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Al-Thani family and the people of Qatar.

The OCA said H H the Father Amir would be remembered for his dedication, wisdom and distinguished service to Qatar, while highlighting his belief in sport as a tool for human development and a means to promote values of peace, health and well-being.

“His contributions and enduring commitment have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire future generations,” the OCA said.

The continental Olympic body also recalled the H H the Father Amir’s personal connection with sport, noting that during his youth he actively participated in football, swimming and equestrian sports.

The OCA said H H the Father Amir was widely credited with laying the foundations that contributed to Qatar’s emergence as a leading sporting nation and a global capital of sport. The statement added that his commitment to the advancement of sport would continue to inspire generations to come.
