Doha, Qatar: Felix Sanchez has taken charge of Bahrain, with the Spaniard set to lead the West Asian nation at the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027.

Sanchez replaces Dragan Talajic, who parted ways with Bahrain following the recent Gulf Cup.

As the defending champions, Bahrain were eliminated from the regional tournament in the group stage.

“Sanchez will officially begin his duties during the international break in November,” the Bahrain Football Association said on its social media channels.

Sanchez is best remembered for guiding Qatar to their maiden AFC Asian Cup title in 2019 and leading the team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He also coached Qatar at the Copa America before taking charge of Ecuador, whom he led to the quarter-finals of the 2024 Copa America.

He previously guided Qatar’s U-19 team to the AFC U-19 Asian Cup title in 2014.

His immediate targets with Bahrain include the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia, followed by the qualifying campaign for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
