Buenos Aires - Former Argentine president Carlos Menem has died at the age of 90 after battling long-term health problems.
Menem died on Sunday in a clinic in Buenos Aires. He was placed into a coma after his health deteriorated in the clinic.
He had already been admitted to hospital several times in 2020, including for pneumonia treatment.
Menem was president of Argentina from 1989 to 1999, and was a senator until the end of his life.
Both of his terms of office were characterized by market economy policies and the privatization of state-owned companies.
