Al Kuwari hails Barshim's winning of high jump gold
Qatar’s gravity-defying high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim celebrates after winning the gold during the IAAF World Championships at the London Stadium in London, United Kingdom, yesterday. Barshim won the high jump gold with a winning leap of 2.35 metres to earn Qatar’s second medal at the 2017 Worlds.


Doha: HE Dr Thani Al Kuwari, Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee and President of the Qatar Athletics Federation, presented the achievement by Mutaz Barshim, who won the high jump gold at the IAAF World Athletics Championships in London today, to HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, HE President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, and to all Qatari citizens.
Al Kuwari hailed the achievements, saying that they are the results of support extended by the leadership and all those responsible for the Qatari sport. He praised the talented heroes who honored Qatar at the 2017 World Cup with their outstanding performance, high spirit, determination and unflagging will which they showed throughout the competitions until this achievement.
The QOC Secretary General praised Barshim, wishing him success in his great efforts to take home more achievements and put Qatar's name on the Olympic honor list in Tokyo 2020.
He described this achievement as an incentive to continue towards leadership and achievements.
At the end of his statement, Dr Al Kuwari congratulated all fans of the games and Qatar sports on this honorable achievement.
"I promised that I would strive and make constant efforts to raise the flag of Qatar high in international forums," said Barshim, stressing that the achievement was the result of the support and attention given by the wise leadership.
He pledged to make every effort possible to honor the nation in international forums, thanking all those who stood with him and supported him in his career until he achieved this sports gains for the State of Qatar.
