Doha: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has installed a total of 4,061 debris traps across the country’s stormwater drainage network as part of ongoing efforts to maintain the efficiency of Qatar’s infrastructure assets and within routine maintenance schedules.
The initiative aims to improve the performance and operational capacity of the stormwater drainage system, supporting greater resilience during rainfall and enhancing overall network reliability.
According to posts on Ashghal’s social media accounts yesterday, the debris traps play a key role in protecting underground pipelines by capturing sand, leaves and other waste before they can cause blockages. This preventive measure reduces the risk of water accumulation and localised flooding during heavy rain, contributing to safer roads and smoother traffic flow.
The traps feature a user-friendly design that allows for easy cleaning and maintenance without the need for specialised equipment. This approach supports sustainable upkeep of the drainage network and helps ensure continuous operational efficiency while safeguarding public infrastructure assets.
