Macron urges lifting of Qatar embargo

Paris: HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani discussed with HE the President of the friendly French Republic Emmanuel Macron the strong bilateral relations and means of enhancing and developing them in all fields to serve the common interests of the two countries.
During the meeting held at the Elysee Palace this evening, HH the Emir and HE the French President discussed the latest developments of the Gulf crisis, and its repercussions, as well as efforts to resolve it through dialogue and diplomatic means through the mediation by the sisterly State of Kuwait, which is supported by the two countries.
The two sides also discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest and exchanged views on them. They also discussed means of enhancing joint cooperation in the field of combating the financing of terrorism and working together to address its causes.
The meeting was attended by members of the official delegation accompanying HH the Emir, as well as a number of ministers and senior officials from the French side.
An AFP report further said:
French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday urged the lifting of a Saudi-led embargo on Qatar in effect since June.
Macron is calling for "the embargo measures affecting the people of Qatar, in particular families and students, to be lifted as quickly as possible," the president's office said in a statement after he met with Qatar's emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
Macron "expressed his concern over the tensions that threaten regional stability, undermining the political resolution of crises and our collective fight against terrorism," the statement said.
The two sides also discussed a number of regional and international issues. They also discussed means of enhancing cooperation in combating terrorism. The meeting was attended by members of the delegation accompanying HH the Emir as well as a number of ministers and officials from the French side.
